Lecture on Research Data Management for Advancing Sustainable Land Use Practices

Organisation: Nationalparkverwaltung Bayrischer Wald

We look forward to an insightful presentation by Daniel Tschink from GFBio e.V. for the Nationalparkverwaltung Bayrischer Wald as part of their weekly seminar series. This session, titled "Exploring the Future of Sustainable Land Use," will delve into the crucial role of research data management in developing innovative land use and management strategies across various ecosystems, landscapes, and biomes.

As global land-use change and unsustainable practices increasingly threaten biodiversity and ecosystem functions, this talk aims to empower ecologists with the skills and knowledge necessary to fully leverage research data. The growing volume, complexity, and rapid creation of research data present significant challenges regarding their long-term value and accessibility.

Emphasizing the importance of transparent and collaborative data practices, this session will highlight the need for effective research data management. Drawing inspiration from the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—the discussion aligns with the rising demand for transparency from research institutions, funders, and publishers.

Participants will explore the various stages of the data life cycle, address common challenges encountered in daily routines, and learn how the FAIR principles, along with the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and NFDI4Biodiversity, can help overcome these hurdles.
